Muju Firefly Festival to Begin on June 8

Wednesday, May 30, 2012 - The annual Firefly Festival is slated to run from June 8th through June 16th in Muju-gun County, Jeollabuk-do Province.

Kicking off with an opening ceremony, the festival will present a fireworks show, street parade, and wide range of arts and crafts programs including woodcraft, natural dyeing and pottery throughout the festival period. Also, the popular Fireflies Exploration program will return to take participants on a nighttime expedition for observing and feeding the fireflies in their natural habitat. Reservations for the program can be made online or onsite.

IATA - Strong Passenger Demand - Some Cargo Improvement

IATA announced global traffic results for April showing that total passenger demand rose 6.1% while freight demand was 4.2% down on April 2011.

Despite continuing economic weakness in some parts of the world, demand for air travel continues to grow. The 6.1% overall growth recorded for April is above the 20-year trend. Strong demand for air travel with limited capacity expansion pushed load factors to 79.3% which is a record high for an April load factor.

Singapore’s cruise tourism marks another significant milestone, with the completion of its International Cruise Terminal, officially named Marina Bay Cruise Centre Singapore (MBCCS).

Mr S Iswaran, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and Second Minister for Home Affairs and Trade & Industry, announced the name of the cruise centre after a site inspection of the completed terminal today.  Minister Iswaran toured the 28,000-square metre MBCCS and was briefed on its processes and facilities.

A tourist sleeper train is now in service from Seoul Station to Yeosu Expo Station


The sleeper train was launched to offer travelers an easy way to enjoy Expo and other popular Yeosu tourist attractions without having to worry about accommodation or transportation.

The train leaves from Seoul Station at 11:20 p.m., and arrives at Yeosu Expo Station at 3:48 a.m. the following morning. After touring the Yeosu Expo and other local attractions such as Hyangiram Hermitage and Odongdo Island, the train returns to Seoul Station at 7:52p.m.

IMO incorporates recommendations from cruise industry operational safety review in meeting outputs

CLIA announced that the International Maritime Organization's (IMO) Maritime Safety Committee incorporated a number of recommendations from the ongoing Cruise Industry Operational Safety Review in its meetings in London, being held May 16 to 25.  The committee focused extensive attention on passenger ship safety and considered a number of recommendations developed by the Review, launched on behalf of the global cruise industry in January, along with other safety recommendations submitted by IMO member governments.

Boeing Delivers 3rd Peace Eye AEW&C Aircraft to Republic of Korea Air Force


Boeing delivered the third Peace Eye 737 Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) aircraft to the Republic of Korea Air Force (ROKAF) on May 16.

The aircraft was delivered ahead of schedule to ROKAF Base Gimhae, the main operating base for the Peace Eye fleet. Peace Eye No. 3 is the second aircraft in the fleet to be modified into an AEW&C configuration by Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) at its facility in Sacheon.

US Airways Education Foundation Seeks 2012 Non-Profit Grant Applicants


The US Airways Education Foundation is currently accepting 2012 grant applicants for its Community Education Grant Program. The Education Foundation, which provides college scholarships to dependents of US Airways employees and education grants to non-profits, will award multiple grants of $10,000 each to non-profit organizations in the airline's hub cities Charlotte, N.C., Philadelphia and Phoenix and its focus city in Washington D.C.

Life is Good in Orlando this May

Monday, May 21, 2012 - Life is good in Orlando this May. Visit Orlando is teaming up with Life is good, the lifestyle apparel brand, to host a series of events and activities in Orlando to benefit children. Highlighting the weekend is a "Day of Play," that includes the I-Drive 5k Race on May 12. Attendees can take advantage of a special "Life is good in Orlando" hotel package, which includes a special rate at the Rosen Shingle Creek and a variety of special amenities. 


Two new platforms and 700 extra trains for Blackfriars


Work to rebuild Blackfriars station comes a step closer to completion this weekend as the station’s final two new platforms open for use.

Passengers will benefit from more than 700 extra trains every week at Blackfriars thanks to the new platforms and the completion of engineering work on the central London section of the Thameslink route, allowing trains to serve the station later at night and on weekends.
