Asia/Pacific Hotel Occupancy rises by 1.8 percent

Tuesday, July 24, 2012 - Hotels in the Asia/Pacific region experienced positive results in all three key performance metrics for June 2012 when reported in U.S. dollars, according to data compiled by STR Global. In year-over-year measurements, the Asia/Pacific region’s occupancy increased 1.8 percent to 66.2 percent, its average daily rate increased 5.4 percent to US$136.87 and its revenue per available room was up 7.3 percent to US$90.66. Year-to-date 2012 the region reported a 2.3-percent occupancy increase to 66.0 percent, a 3.3-percent rise in ADR to US$141.38 and a 5.7 percent growth in RevPAR to US$93.26.

The airberlin group is having new fuel-saving wing tip devices fitted on all 14 of the Airbus A320/A321 aircraft which are still on order with the manufacturer. These devices, known as Sharklets, are two and a half metre wing tip extensions which point upwards. They reduce the creation of vortices and therefore improve aerodynamics.

Monday, July 23, 2012 - Singapore Changi Airport handled 4.4 million passenger movements in June 2012, 9.7% more than a year before.  There were 26,700 landings and take-offs at Changi during the month, a growth of 6.4% year-on-year.

For the first half of 2012, Changi Airport handled 25.0 million passengers, an increase of 11.6% compared to the corresponding period last year.

Korean Air Announces 2012 Q2 Results with Return to Operating Profit

Saturday, July 21, 2012 - Korean Air announced its financial results for the second quarter of 2012 ended June 30, 2012. The airline posted operating income of 3,119 billion KRW for the second quarter of 2012, a year-on-year increase of 9.9%. Operating profit turned to black from a loss of 38 billion KRW in the same period of last year to a profit of 100 billion KRW. International passenger and cargo businesses remained the major revenue contributors for the airline, accounting for 56.8% and 25.1% of the operating revenue respectively.

Jetstar adds new international connection to Japan

Jetstar has announced a new international link to its domestic network in Japan, with a Darwin-Singapore-Osaka service on sale.

Operated by Jetstar Airways, the existing Darwin-Singapore service will now continue on from Singapore to Osaka three times a week from 1 November 2012.
