airberlin launches first nonstop flights to Kaliningrad
airberlin will fly to Kaliningrad three times per week, thus establishing the only nonstop connection from Berlin and Germany to the Russian exclave and centre of culture and commerce on the Baltic. At the opening ceremony at Berlin-Tegel, airberlin CEO Hartmut Mehdorn said: "The economic relations between Germany and Russia continue to grow and this means an increased demand for air travel, especially in the market sector of business travel." He added: "No other airline connects these two cities nonstop from Germany. Our new route between Berlin and Kaliningrad fills this gap in the European route network."
